Katie followed in her mother's footsteps this year in participating in the Youth Legislature experience at the old State Capitol. We did this when I was in Junior High at St. George and it was lots of fun. She and several of her friends had a great time writing and defending a bill in this mock session. Katie's bill was about revamping Common Core (who's a teacher's kid?). She is looking forward to participating again next year. She and several of her friends were selected to the "Hall of Fame" for their participation. I drove them the 2nd day so I got to take a few pictures:

Girl Scout Horse Day
So Emma has been very pumped up about trying to ride horses through Girl Scouts this year, but our troop could never quite plan an event, so we decided to venture on our own to one of Marydale's one day lessons. She absolutely loved it. They got to groom horses and see the barn and then ride a few different horses at the end. She can't wait to go to a 3 day camp this summer and get some more horse interaction. Here are a few pictures from our Sunday afternoon:

Mardi Gras with the Jacobsens
So normally the Carrolls don't get to do much Mardi Gras b/c of baseball, but this year Emma and I decided to leave Daddy at home and venture to New Orleans with the Jacobsens. Katie was in Disneyworld with a school trip (with out me - can you believe it?) - so we deserved to have a good time. Emma is definitely a trooper when it comes to the crowds and the beads - she is very competitive in ALL things.
Snow Day
Here are a few pics from our sad but relaxing snow day this January. We didn't get very much "snow" - more like ice, but at least we had a couple of relaxing days off of school.
Brief absences!
So just a heads up that the following blogs are well past their due date! I don't take pictures near as often as I used to at events, so I don't have quite as many pictures, and then, like most people, those little digital suckers never seem to come out of the camera (or SD card). So I decided today to catch up on several events this spring semester. Because I am so behind, my explanations will be brief. And, I apologize ahead of time for my children's goofy smiles and looks. It seems as though I can't get them to take a "normal" picture any more. Enjoy!

Jacket Jazz competetion
Katie's junior high dance team had their first competition this past Sunday at Southeastern and they did very well, and had a great time. I think they got to see what some of these very dedicated high school teams do as far as style and practice to get a better grip on what it takes to compete at this level. I loved watching all of the other teams perform and so did the girls (maybe dad... not so much!)

Emma's basketball begins
Emma's new adventure this year is basketball. She has never played before, and wanted to try it. Our park program (where she plays softball) has a great program this year called Hoopsters, and it is perfect for her b/c they do clinics and then play games, and kind of teach them as they go. It has helped her to learn the game and make it very low pressure as far as games and winning goes. Last Saturday was her first "game".

Overall, I think she really likes it, and I hope that she will continue to play.
